Dr Prabhu Menon was a busy man in his surgical field that he never found the time to settle down and have a family of his own. Everyone who worked with him in his old hospital knew that he was married once upon a time but nobody knew anything about his estranged wife and how the relationship broke off between them. But what everyone did know was that Dr.Prabhu’s ex-wife remarried and is settled with her husband and two kids in Australia. Surgeries and research were all Dr.Prabhu was ever passionate about and the moment he saw Lima lying on the hospital bed with an apparent clot in her brain, he knew he was excited about his 2000th solo surgery.

“How did she get a clot in her brain?” Angad asked Dr.Prabhu as Lima slowly tried to sit up in her bed. She wasn’t expecting to meet her father for the first time in a hospital bed.

“Well, she might have suffered a huge hit when she fell on the water, we won’t be sure to what caused the clot until I get into the O.R and open up. However, I would like to assure you that there is nothing to be worried about and it’s completely fixable.”

“Do you have any experience with such surgeries?” Angad asked.

“Angad, he is a prominent surgeon in the world, of course he knows what he is doing.” Lima said.

“Oh Looks like you’ve done your research, and may I ask whom you are to the patient.” Dr.Prabhu asked in confusion.

“Well, he is my colleague, we came here to interview you for our magazine in fact. We were supposed to meet with you yesterday but unfortunately I met with this accident.”

“What?” Angad mouthed in surprise but decided not to act on it.

“Yes, yes we are! I’m her boss in fact, I think she is still shaken from the accident. Angad here.”

“Oh very nice to meet you, Angad. I guess we can have our interview after my surgery today. Lima is going to be my 2000th surgery.”

“I’m having surgery today?”

“Yes, I think it’s advisable to have the clot removed before any further complications arise. Do you have any questions?”

“When can I get an interview with you?” Lima asked as she stared at her father with her heart beating fast.

Dr.Prabhu laughed at her question and left the room assuring them that he will come back before prepping for the surgery. As Angad went behind Dr.Prabhu to close the door, he was hit from the back with a pen that bounced back to the floor.

“Boss? Why are you even here?”

“Colleague? And what interview were you talking about??”

“I’m a journalist. And I’ll say it again, it’s none of your business. Why are you even here? I can handle this myself, if you have someplace to be then I think you should leave.”

“About that, I’ve told my parents I’ve a girlfriend here and because of whom I cannot go to Auckland where they live.”

“So?”

“I’ve told them that YOU are my girlfriend  and you’re currently in the hospital which puts me in the position to be here with you.”

“Why would you say that you, stranger? I don’t even know you!”

“My parents wanted me to move to Auckland for my family business but you see, I would rather stay here and work. When I admitted you here, I called them to inform about my situation and when my dad said I had to come back today itself, I told him I’ve a girlfriend here who is currently admitted to the hospital so that I can spare few more days from my dad before I come up with a better plan. Don’t worry, I’ll leave as soon as your surgery is over.”

Lima felt like her scalp was about to burn her hair follicles from the heat of her brain. She wanted to jump on him and scratch his face like a furious cat. She never had time for people who are so clueless and helpless in life. Angad was the same for her. A pushover who had no courage to do what he wants in his life. She had no time for such people. No time at all.

“You cannot stay after the surgery is over.”

“Deal! But I did mention…”

There was a knock on the door. Angad and Lima looked at each other in surprise since the doctor had just finished his rounds and nobody knew them here to make a visit. As Angad opened the door, he saw his father standing in front of the door with what appears to be a bouquet.
