Every year it’s the same. Some famous actress, writer or a public figure’s quote on women empowerment is made into a wallpaper and it will fly through the entire social media on March 8th for the International Women’s Day. And at the end of the day, after watching and seeing women being celebrated across all social media platforms, we go back to sleep, only to wake up to the terrible news of a woman being raped, abused, harassed and mimicked in the streets, work place and at their very own houses. On the same day, there would also be a bunch of clueless men and women who would bicker about the fact that the men don’t get to celebrate a day exclusively for them, obviously unaware of the 19th of November, being the day celebrating International Men’s Day.
When I see my mother, who is a banker, wife and a mother who was successful at all three of them without sacrificing one over the other, I knew that it is possible that we women can have it all without saying ‘no’ to one. When I saw my father, sharing the household work load every day and taking responsibility for us, children, I knew that my mother had a good support system in a man. But recently I came across an ad for a T.V channel where they are calling it “Sunday is her day” where women are shown working their ass off and trying to multi-task to the best of their ability during which the men surrounding these women are shown wearing ties to go to the office, eating their food, coming back from a badminton match and even reading a frikking book!!! And the good news is these men have decided to give all those hardworking women a foot massage, an omelette for breakfast and change the diaper of their kids for free, on every Sunday! Fuck. How fucked up is our society to think this ad is what we need in this day and age and to share this hideous advertisement all across social media on Women’s Day like it is the best fucking idea in the world.
While growing up I’ve heard women drivers being criticized and taunted for being ‘horrible’ drivers. I’ve seen parents fuss about having a girl child because they believe they need to start making a shit load of money to give as dowry when she grows up. I’ve seen parents worry more about their son’s education rather than their daughter’s because they think it’s okay if the girl child isn’t working and they can simply get her married off. I’ve seen teachers threatening the boys by making them sit next to the girls. I’ve seen boys taunted by other boys in school simply because they were made to sit next to girls. I’ve been part of a mysterious trip to the washroom by a group of four to five girls to save one of them from her period outburst or a sanitary pad emergency. I’ve been part of many public transportation journey where physical and mental abuse of women by fellow travelers is considered a normal practice. I’ve been part of a college where my friend was asked not to wear jeans because it was not appealing to the “men” of our college. I’ve been the victim of so many roadside bullying by the so-called men because they assume we would simply ignore them. I’ve seen men who treat their girlfriends and wives with disrespect, but treats their mothers and sisters like God. I know of so many families where the women are considered a ‘complaint box’ by the men because the man in the family doesn’t think he needs to support his wife daily because he brings home the money and takes her for a yearly vacation. I know of women who talk disrespectfully about fellow women simply because they are different than them. I know women who are oblivious of the fact that they are being misused because it has been the norm from the time she could remember.

Men, who are suffering from frequent sperm loss, are likely to get a sexual problem in life. viagra online However, let us not forget to acknowledge the strong women and men in our lives who understands the need to stand up for each other and one another. Let us not consider their efforts valueless because everyday we see and hear women fight for what they deserve, fight for what they are opposed and fight for the unfair treatment, each day moving towards our goal to be equal to the rest of the humans. Let us be the strong women we aspire to be and stand up for every single issue we ever had to deal with in our lives. Let us aspire women around us to know what their rights are and let no one tell them otherwise.
For starters, let’s celebrate women’s day, everyday by men, women and children by respecting, loving and supporting each and every single woman in your life because we have been suppressed for a really long time and we need all the help that we can get. For starters, don’t misunderstand feminism to be something we women use to have an abuse of power and something we women try, to dominate the men in the society. Feminism is all about women being treated equally to men, which hasn’t been achieved yet because we are still underpaid in the work place, we are still slaves in many parts of the world and the rate of violence on women is higher than ever. Hence the name ‘feminism’ because we are still trying to get to the place where women are treated equal to the men. I don’t know how many men will consider everything I wrote today as a ‘femi-nazi’ rant but try to understand where women stand today in the 21st century. There might be a few obnoxious men and women who will try to put each gender at war against each other, but please try not to let them blind you. An individual behavior has nothing to do with their particular gender and it definitely doesn’t mean all men or all women are the same. Our society needs to address so many issues regarding women empowerment that a single day cannot determine our stance on it. There is a lot that need to be achieved and things that needs to be done to reach where we strive for, in order to live in a harmonious and a well-developed society. Until our voices are heard at the root of it all and the purpose of ours are understood from every corner, let everyday be a day to stand and stay strong for the women of our lives and of the world.
