Churro and Churro Only.

When I visited Chicago last week, I did not imagine that I would come across something as delicious as heaven. Let me explain, It was our first day in Chicago and after visiting 3 to 4 places during the day, we decided to go to Navy Pier. Navy Pier is a Pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan and they had fireworks, carousels, giant wheel, boat rides and all the shenanigans of a fun place.

Even though we had a boat ride for the night, we decided to kill some time by getting on to the giant wheel. The queue for the giant wheel was so humongous that Bigshot wanted to skip it all together. Naha. Not me. I’m the kind of annoying person who goes to some place and wants to try out or see everything there, now that is the only reason nobody likes to go shopping with me. So as we were standing in the queue, tired and frustrated, I saw from the corner of my eyes a small little shop named “xurro” and like a small kid, I pointed my finger towards the place and said “I want”. Bigshot did not mess with me when I’m tired and cranky, he said his sarcastic “yes dear” and left to buy whatever they are selling.

He came back to the queue which by now was nearing the ticket station, and held out these curious looking food at me, which on the first glance, looked like something fried and crispy.

I took my first bite and heaven’s gate opened and all the angels came rushing out to lift me up and take me back to their place. Bigshot and I looked at each other and we spoke for the first time telepathically, while chewing on to those delicious churros. Unfortunately, our little trip to heaven was halted when a lady near the ticketing corner told us “NO FOOD INSIDE THIS AREA” and looked at me and my churro specifically. Everyone in the queue looked at us with the utmost sympathy because they had observed that these tourist Indians had liked their first ever churro. I don’t know what happened, but on the way to the trash near the queue we ate our churro in 2 bites and gobbled it since wasting that precious food seemed unbearable.

While riding on the giant wheel, all I could think of was churro even though the view from it seemed out of the world.

We got out after 15 minutes of the ride and it was time for our pre-booked boat trip, so we skipped the churro stand since a large queue had formed there by now. I kept looking back at the churro stand while Bigshot dragged me out of its sight and kept telling himself “We will come back for sure.”

And yes, we did go back there after our boat ride and while everyone was busy figuring out the best spot to sit and watch the fireworks at night, we decided to go to the stand and grab those churros again. We tasted every bit of it this time and I completely ignored the fireworks for the first 5 minutes. In my defense, I had seen the New York fireworks for July 4th last year and as beautiful as it was, churro took over my heart and soul that day.
