A mystical train journey

Dev was a twenty-six year old man whom we can say at one glance itself as a good-looking fellow, he is tall and build with the most charming smile. Dev’s personality was the most striking feature about him though. He was content, kind, calm and quite a gentleman. But he felt lonely all his life and the fact that is he clingy and desperate for attention made him less closer to his friends and family.

Dev was working in a renowned company and he needs to commute one hour daily in the morning to reach his work place. The train he takes in the morning comes at 9’o clock sharp and usually almost all of the passengers gets out at his station. Dev was happy with his job and never complained to his parents about the travel, in fact he even made sure he spoke to his mother on his commute.

It was a clear, crisp Friday morning and the train as usual had reached the station on time. Dev was waiting for all the passengers in the train to get out so that he can try and get a perfectly good seat near the window, that is when his mother called on the phone.

“Dev, did you catch the train?” asked his mom.
“I am about to enter the train, mom. What is dad up to?” he enquired.
“He is very tensed about you, Dev, So am I” she said.
“Tensed?? Tensed about what?” he said puzzled.
“We should start looking for a girl for you to marry, Dev” she said
“I don’t want to marry someone Ma, I want to fall in love with somebody first.” he said as he slowly entered the  coach.

Almost the entire train was empty and he found the coach to be completely deserted which made him choose a window seat in the compartment right on the middle of the coach. While talking to his mother, he sat on the seat and suddenly jumped up as he felt like he was trying to sit on something. He kept the phone down and saw that he was about to sit on a magazine with a white silk scarf lying beside it. Dev was sure the seat was empty when he tried to sit, but here he was standing and looking at a magazine which is something women who are very much into fashion would read and a pure white silk scarf. He took the magazine in one hand and the scarf in the other and sat down. The moment he rubbed the scarf in his hand, the scarf sent out a lovely smell of vanilla and cherries that enticed him completely. He smelled the scarf this time to be captivated by that subtle but elegant smell that he was sure a woman of class can only pull it off. Before he knew, the magazine in his hand slipped from his fingers and fell down on the floor, revealing what appears to be a photograph of a young woman in her twenties. It appeared as if the photo was taken in a studio and the beautiful face gave him the goosebumps. He picked the photo up and tossed through it to find nothing but a date written on the back of it.

Dev put the photograph back into the magazine and kept both the scarf and the magazine in his lap. He looked out of the window and slowly found himself smiling and blushing. He could not stop thinking about the woman and meeting her in person. In the mind trip, he imagined various scenarios where he would talk to her, where he will tell her how he found her belongings and even decided to ask her personal number. Of course she would be willing to give it to some one who just saved her photograph and scarf with his dear life. Of course. The train came to a sudden halt and Dev came out of his musing to find out that they have stopped at the last station before his  final destination.

He looked at the scarf again and took it near to him to take another random sniff when suddenly a man came running inside and started looking around his compartment.

“Hey, that scarf is mine” said the guy, breathlessly.
Excuse-me?” Dev said perplexed

“My friend accidently left it on the train before getting out of Ravalpet station, so he informed me to collect it from here.” he replied and gestured his hand for the magazine and the scarf.
“But this is a girl’s scarf and there is a photograph of a woman inside the magazine” Dev said sounding little defensive.
The guy who came in now was losing his patience and was clearly finding Dev annoying.
“The girl in the photo is my friend’s fiancé and the scarf belongs to his mother. They were both on the train today.”

Dev without hesitating another second quickly gave both the items to the man and they exchanged a thank you and he left. The train started moving again and Dev went back to looking out of the window and all of a sudden took out his phone and rang his mother.

“What happened, Dev?” asked mother.
“Nothing much mom, Just wanted to let you know that you can go ahead and start looking for a suitable girl.” he finished.
