One Hour Jet Lag

Hellooo people! How was your weekend? Mine started off pretty great on Friday night and ended up being pretty terrible on Sunday night. It was similar to a rom-com movie, except the story started from happily ever after to facing the actual realities of life. Friday night we had our two person party wherein we have a movie marathon followed by unlimited food and drinks. Saturday we spent our entire day taking rest and getting over the after effects of our Friday night party. The sleeping system during the weekends has never been an issue for us before, until this weekend when the daylight saving time started in the US and we lost a whole one hour into thin air. Nobody knows where that one hour went and we are all supposed to get over it only to tweak the time accordingly. When we went to sleep on Sunday night, little did we remember about the time change that was supposed to happen at 2:00 in the morning. As we woke up at 11:30 AM panicking about over-sleeping, our body was still at 10:30 AM, having slept adequately. Our disappointment about losing an hour was quite evident throughout the day, when we kept saying the time isn’t actually what it’s on the clock, but the time we used to follow every time we needed some convincing. When we ate our lunch at 3:30 PM, we told ourselves that the time is actually 2:30 PM and felt good about making up the excuse for having a very late lunch.

But what we did not consider into was our sleep that same night and how the time change would affect it. Of course I took an evening nap at 7 PM because it was 6 PM in my mind. As we lay in our bed at midnight 12, little did we expect to not get sleep because our mind was playing games with us. As I shuffled around the entire bed trying to get a sweet spot somewhere so that I would fall asleep, Bigshot was throwing his gigantic  legs and hands all around me trying to find a comfortable sleeping position. Our brain was not ready to sleep at 12 AM because it felt like we were trying to sleep early at 11 PM on a weekend night. I know, It was confusing for us too. After whining like two cats who has been deprived of their afternoon nap time, we scratched each other’s face and slowly drifted into a sleep, early Monday morning.

As I woke up from bed today after snoozing my alarm for the 100th time, I knew that we had been jet lagged by our brains because I was starving. You see, when I wake up the first thing in the morning, my initial priority is to use the loo, wake up Bigshot and then enter the kitchen for our breakfast. But today as I woke up, all I wanted to do the first thing in the morning was to grab a bowl of oatmeal even before brushing my teeth. That’s how starved I was. The disappearance of an hour in our lives made a huge difference in the past one day and I never thought I would get a headache because of it. While my nerves try to detach themselves from my already swelled up brain, it’s time to make my lunch as I’m sure we both will be end up hungry earlier than before. Until I get over this “jet lag” and headache that’s compromising my eyes to shut down, I’ll talk to you all tomorrow with a much better and less depressing story. Until then, have a good day/night everyone  🙂
