Journey to Roaring Fork, Clingman’s Dome and more.

After an eventful start to the trip, next day we decided to get up early and see as many places as we can in the Great Smokey Mountains. I in fact had an itinerary planned for the whole day including how much time we should be spending on breakfast and that my friends is the exact moment Bigshot decided to ignore the well-planned itinerary of mine and make his own which is “go with the flow”. We decided to start with a place near to Gatlinburg and move all the way into the Mountains.

First stop – Roaring Fork Motor Trail.

Like the name itself it was a route through the forest by car and you can see the ruins of historic houses and wooden cabins on the side. Even though the whole pathway was crowded, we could get down at a few places and go for small walks along the forest trail. The fascinating part is the number of small streams on every corner of the forest for you to sit and relax. Bigshot kept sprinting around the places which my tiny legs couldn’t cope up with and when I call out to him like the damsel in distress he gets distressed. You walked right into that one, didn’t you? 😀

The fall colors were so uneven this time and we are assuming it’s the hurricane Mathew effect that all of the colorful leaves had fallen down and the green ones still hadn’t completely turned. But the mountains and the beautiful streams made up for it. All I ever wanted was to sit on those rocks and listen to the sound of the streaming water. Fun fact – I sat on one of the water falls near Roaring Fork called the Place of Thousand Drips with such enthusiasm that I forgot I was sitting on a wet rock the whole time. People even looked at me and pointed out at my butt including Bigshot but I was too occupied to know anything. After getting out of the there did I realize the consequences of sitting there as the cold -1 temperature along with the icy breeze touched my butt for me to cringe every time I sat somewhere. Bigshot being the kind human he is helped me by taking photos of my butt while I was suffering from shame and well, cold.

This road was wider and the beautiful trees had turned colorful in this area, in fact pictures couldn’t grasp the beauty of the view. The scenic beauty felt like it was straight from a computer screensaver. We even reached the top of the mountain to see the entire national park and the mountain terrain. Fun fact – You do not get any food inside the national park and all we had for lunch were those unhealthy snacks we packed for the road.

Third stop – Clingman’s Dome

By far this has been the highlight of our trip, you see it had rained heavily on Friday that the temperature had gone drastically down on Saturday. So as we were fast approaching Clingman’s Dome, the tip of the mountain where we can see the whole mountain from an observatory tower, the top most part of the mountain were completed covered in snow and the whole area was foggy. Now this is something you can never see during the fall but we were so fortunate to see how the mountains would look in the winter. The steep climb towards the observatory was tiring and extremely cold but it all felt worthwhile after reaching the top and seeing that view.

Because we went on such high altitude, our car tire pressure became low and while returning we had to go down the road feeling pretty scared and by the time we fixed the car issue in Gatlinburg it was night time. So we had ur dinner and left for the hotel and that was a wrap to our second day of the trip. Have a good day/night everyone 🙂
